Salem Band Program

Our Salem Band it part of the Lutheran High School South (LHSS) grade school instrumental music program. Instruction is provided by the Lutheran High School Association of St. Louis for students in grades 5-8 in St. Louis area elementary and middle schools.

Salem students in fifth grade have the opportunity to choose a band instrument from the woodwind, brass or percussion instruments for their instruction throughout the school year. Classes meet twice weekly for each grade level for 45 minute sessions, and our band students participate in school concerts and chapel services.

In addition to band classes and concerts at Salem, our students participate in two combined concerts with all elementary and middle school bands in the LHSS band program. These concerts are held at LHSS and provide a great evening of music performed by our students.

Salem Band members may also participate in Lutheran South Junior Winds. This band of select students rehearses and performs challenging music for middle school advanced musicians. During their Concert Tour each year they enjoy performing for students in the Lutheran schools throughout the St. Louis area. Through the St. Louis Metro Music Educators District #8 of the Missouri Music Educators Association, our Salem band students can audition annually for the Metro District #8 Honor Band. If chosen for this elite band, students perform an all Honors Concert each year.

The band program continues in grades 9 through 12 at Lutheran High School South for students who want to continue to develop their talent, and take advantage of performance venues that are available in high school.
