At Salem, we have an up-to-date computer lab which is used across the curriculum by all of our students in preschool-8th grade. Beginning in 2nd grade, students attend computer class twice weekly, and our older students learn keyboarding and basic programming. Students have daily access to the computer lab to complete assignments or classroom projects. Additionally, our teachers use the computers in conjunction with the Accelerated Reader program.
Our classrooms are outfitted with smartboards that teachers utilize daily to integrate technology into their instruction.
In 2013, we expanded our technology curriculum by purchasing iPads to enhance our students’ educational opportunities with a wide range of wonderful learning apps and games. Students use our iPads to work cooperatively in group settings, or to work at their own pace and level. Our kindergarteners have mini iPads that they use in the classroom in centers. Our 1st -4th grade classrooms have iPads for more than half of the class and use these during centers.
In 2015, we purchased Chromebooks for all of our 6th-7th & 8th graders to use in class. In 2017, we purchased Chromebooks for 5th graders to use in class.
