Salem Lutheran Church is committed to providing a comfortable environment where everyone feels welcome and valued. We strive to create a safe environment where people from diverse backgrounds can come together and share their faith. We are a Bible-based, Christ-centered congregation of The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.
We invite you to worship with us each weekend!
Saturdays at 5:00 p.m. and Sundays at 8:00 and 10:30 a.m.
The Sacrament of Holy Communion is celebrated at each of the three services every weekend (unless as noted). Those who are confirmed in the Lutheran faith are welcome to commune with us.
Visitors of other faiths who join us for worship may come to the Lord’s Table with arms crossed over their hearts to receive a blessing. Children are also welcome to come forward with parents to receive a special baptismal blessing.

Who We Are
Salem Lutheran Church has been serving the Affton community for over 100 years. We are a community of believers who love Jesus Christ and each other. We believe that God’s Word is true and we live it out in our lives every day.
Our congregation continues to serve the local community through worship services, Sunday school classes, and social events.
Our Story
In 1909, Salem Lutheran Church was founded as a congregation of the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod. The Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod was founded in 1847 to bring the Gospel message to all people.
Today, we continue to grow and thrive because of the many faithful members who have gone before us and current members and friends of Salem. We are grateful for the opportunity to be a part of your life and invite you to join us in worshiping God!
What We Believe
We are a church that believes in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord and that salvation comes through Him alone.
We believe that God loves us and wants to be with us forever.
We believe that we have an obligation to love one another and care for each other.
We believe that God's Word is true and should guide our lives.

Our Mission and Purpose
Our threefold mission is Connecting to Christ, Growing in Grace, and Seeking to Serve. We do this through worshiping God, sharing the Gospel, and serving others.
As a growing congregation, we will continue to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ, nurture spiritual growth, and provide opportunities for service. We will reach out to those around us and build relationships with them. We will continue to pursue excellence in ministry, education, and outreach. We will continue to develop leaders who will impact the world for Christ.
What’s Happening at Salem?
OUR MISSIONARY FAMILY
Salem has adopted our former vicar (2022-2023), now Rev. Jason and Emily Groth and their children, Gideon, Esther, Martha, and Joanna as our missionary family. Jason and Emily are now serving our Lord as career missionaries through the LCMS in Belize. In this role, they help plant Lutheran churches and coordinate the operations of Camp Concordia in Belmopan, Belize. In addition to these responsibilities, the Groths support short-term mission teams and facilitate acts of mercy.
We encourage our members and friends to prayerfully consider partnering with the LCMS to support the work of Jason and Emily Groth. We have special offering envelopes available for contributions to the Groth Family Mission, which can be dropped in the offering plates during worship services on any weekend.
Checks with Groth-Belize noted on the memo line can be made payable to:
