GRADES 3 & 4
Published Friday, 9/10/10 for the week of 9/13-17/2010
Wednesday, September 8, brought sunny skies, warm temperatures, and the perfect day for a field trip. Our walk down Gravois proved to bring a lot of learning to the kids. One said, “I ride down this street every day, and I’ve never noticed that before!” Another thought it was the “greatest field trip ever”—that ice cream cone at Dairy Queen helped, of course. Thanks to Ms. Martin (Cade’s mom) for walking along with us. Our findings will be turned into graphs generated on computers within the next few weeks. They’ll be prettier in color, so I may email them home to you.
Here are some things to note for next week:
1. Memory Work: Verses are found at the bottom of the page indicated in the regular Religion book.
Tuesday: p. 13
Friday: p. 17
2. Spelling: We’ll be working on Unit 4. The normal schedule of testing days and due dates are in place.
3. Language class: We will be working to find the simple and complete subjects of a sentence. This can be a bit confusing, so if there are questions at home as your child works on homework, please pass them on to me.
4. Social Studies: We will be finishing up the first chapter along with all the extra
5. Science: I goofed! The study guides for next week’s test were to have come home Thursday, and when all the kids had gone, I found them still sitting on my desk. To be fair, I will be moving that test to Wednesday, September 15. The kids will have changed the date on their study guides, and I wanted you to know that change is teacher directed. J
Please notice the extra credit option at the bottom of the study guide.
6. Book Orders: Remember that those are due either
online or to me by Thursday, September 16. They will be processed over the weekend.
7. A word about Handwriting:
Grade 3: While I will still be stressing neatness and correct letter formation in
manuscript (printing), we will soon be starting to learn cursive writing,
starting with lower case letters.
Grade 4: There is improvement even over where we left off last spring in the
students’ cursive writing. We’ll keep practicing. In the meantime, students
also need to concentrate on using their neatest printing when they choose
to print. Congratulations to those who do so on a regular basis!
8. Sunday, September 12:
God’s richest blessings to you and your family!
